Reminds me of Cowboy Bebop, where everyone evacuates earth because of too much space junk (unused satellites).

Earth then has meteor showers every now and then and the remaining people go underground.

On the news they also said that it is related to this accident.

I heard the big meteorite has no relation to the accident as both of them were going in opposite directions.
