It only fines you $500,000 or jail IF you sell the unlocked phone for profit. All you have to do now is contact your courier when your contract is up and they should let you unlock it. Though I do see an inconvenience for those who travel a lot.

Well technically Jailbreaking your phone was "illegal" by company procedures, but now it's intertwined with the federal government, which is just gg. This looks like it's like Marijuana though, you can tell people "Oh my phone is "unlocked" herp herp" but as along as it is not in your "possession" the feds can't do shit about it. So nothing to really worry about, just don't act stupid? lol
