Title: What do you think of airsoft?
Post by: Cariad† on January 19, 2013, 06:23:39 PM
Okay, so I've gotten into airsoft for quite a while now and it's god damn awesome. Some people say "Oh what a silly kiddy game, go back to CoD" and things like that.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Does that look nerdy or fun as hell to you?

Secondly, some military personal practice with airsoft/paintball.

What's your guys' thoughts on airsoft?

It looks like a TON of fun.

I'd love to do airsoft/paintball CQB training/games, but have no money/friends/place to do so.

It puts you under real combat stress, even without real weapons. Paintball more so than airsoft, but that's because paintball has the pain as a deterrent to get shot.

But I can't get behind large scale wars, the ballistic properties of a ball are so bad they make me want to tear out my eyes for being the same shape.

Yea I've never gone to an actually airsoft arena or some shit and actually not even paintballing but me and my brother have some decent airsoft guns, mainly him though cause he just spent $180 on some pretty badass thing that you really wouldn't want to be shot by at all unless you've got a fuckload of protection on. Me and him/my friend have messed around and been shot by the guns plenty though, mainly me lol. It's actually just as painful as a paintball gun but that's probably mostly because half of the time I got shot directly on my skin not through clothing.

My friend showed me professional air soft videos on you-tube from Sweden they look fun but it's hard to tell if people lie etc.

I know my cousin likes to play it and I wish I could but equipment can get somewhat expensive and I'm not sure if my parents would let me do it. Seems like a lot of fun though.

Well this is a funny coincidence. Just came back from Hollywood sports (airsoft/paintball park) and see this post. Playing airsoft is the most fun at night because you can wear many layers without being ridiculously sweaty. I'm not really the best, I only have a spring pistol so I use my friends' guns, but it is still fun to rush up the sides and flank people with a deagle. Also there is a whole bunch of different maps and game modes. The most recent one is called Cajun Terror and we played "Tower Defense" on it. Basically there is a group of defenders with 1 life defending the tower and a group of attackers with infinite lives (but they have to run back if shot) trying to infiltrate the tower and eliminate all the defenders.  I've also played paintball before and that was fun too, except paintballs hurt more and it eliminates the simulation of using "real guns". Getting hit with a BB stings for a good 10-15 seconds but doesn't leave big ol' welts like paintballs do. But yeah, I'd only do this for fun, I don't really know about people playing competitively like a sport and getting sponsored and all that.

Airsoft is so hated. It's actually just as good a sport as paintball. It also somewhat simulates a military situation because you gotta reload... like a real gun.

Ya and there are airsoft models of a lot of real guns, which makes it even more awesome.

I have played paintball before.

the thing is that I think a good paintball gun is expensive so the guns they give you in the paintball arenas in here wont go too far and wont go straight, so like you always have to aim higher, at least you are about to rape someone from 2 meters behind him.

I have got headshoted and I have done headshots.

The gayest thing that can happen is that a whole team goes to a corner and barricade there.

Also I remember once a friend made one guy on the enemy team to give him his bullets. He shot him twice and was poiting him on the ground. god lol.

Damn, airsoft battles look exciting, unfortunately I don't think there are any of those in my country or not that I know of, although there are places where you could play paintball. Me and my class wanted to go there on a trip but the girls got all bitchy about it and so we ended up going to some random exhibition.

Lol'd, Airsoft finally became legit since a week ( 16 - 17 Januari).
But I think there are some rules here that allows/doesn't allow you to have airsoft weapons.
But I would love to have airsoft fights, If I had friends with airsoft weapons and if I had airsoft weapons by myself...

Most airsofts have orange tips and some with see through bases so they know they're fake. However even though my AK is like that I did have an old woman call the police on mke...

I don't really like it, when I was 11 I was at a friend's house and they took out their airsoft gun and pointed it at me and I started shaking and had a panic attack, no clue why, it was pretty funny but I was scared shitless. I'm not friends with that person anymore.

Yeah, usually when you transport them, you have to put it in a bag or something so people won't confuse them.

Same thing happened to me. Only it was a cap gun... almost fell backwards when it fired.

I used to go airsofting out in the desert all the time with my friends. I've always bought the cheap $20 plastic spring action guns, but they were proven pretty effective.

Though I stopped because I was in an airsoft group that took the game a little too far.

What happened?
Cake faic story tiem.

The group was just another word for militia. Everything was super serious business, the leader implemented ranking divisions, military related crap, just for a group of guys who shoot plastic BBs at eachother. Eventually word got out that there were some furries/bronies within the group, shitstorm happened, people started to personally insult one another, question authority, I added in that the whole militia aspect was stupid, the works.

Worse part was, everyone was a personal friend of another. Me and the leader were especially good friends with eachother. Me and my friends just broke away eventually, did our own thing, got abunch of new guns and eventually challenged them. Our side won a battle in the desert, we were also about to win another battle until someone called the cops and caused like a helicopter to land by a neighborhood.

Everyone eventually dissolved and played airsoft with each-other for fun now. Also some of the guys were fucking annoying and kept shooting at me for "fun", even though we weren't wearing eye protection. The last person who did that, I grabbed my friend's full metal FAMAS and pelted his ass until the clip was out. There was like 20-30 bb's in the clip left.

^^^ lol nice. Bastard deserved it.

I have been here like 3 times.

Vanguard Indoor Playground 4-9-11 Team Deathmatch (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCjQXP272wU#ws)

Kicks ass! but yes, Good airsoft stuff is expensive.  I have 2 green Gas blowback pistol's, paid about $100 each. Plus $15 a can for gas everytime i have gone to vanguard. All in all though i love to go to these places. super fun. and some of the places you go, they can loan/rent you a decent gun if you dont have one. the one thing i hate getting shot by is the gas powered grenade's. i had one of those shoot off right infront of me and of my friends. that shit hurts  :D

Paintballing leavings welts on your body through clothing. Airsoft not as much. Except airsoft guns hurt a lot more on bare skin than I think paintballs would, though I haven't been shot on my bare skin by a paintball.

I played back in 2008 in the forest behind one of ours houses. It was at least 20 of us and it was some crazy shit. It was actually pretty cool because we allowed those god damn Nerf swords and axes and shields, hell I think I remember one of my friends having a bow and arrow setup too. I can hardly remember but I think I used an electric M4 and a Nerf sword. I remember having some kid sneak up behind me when I was shooting some guy and he slit my throat Rambo style. Eventually we got older and our imaginations dissipated along with actually playing together.

Man, when you're like 8-12 you're probably going to have some of the most memorable moments of your life.

Shit hurts getting hit by a frozen paintball.

Crazy. I was always afraid to play airsoft because I thought it would hurt more than paintballing, which I've already done >.<

Shouldn't be unless you're using some retardedly powerful gas powered airsoft guns that would literally lodge into your skin.

do you realize how much energy you have to waste to get a ball moving at 700 fps?

and then how far off target that ball will go because its a ball

It will take 2.72 joules to propel a .12g ball to 700 FPS. And then the ball will go around 96.13 meters, given perfect conditions.

Also, since these are little plastic balls, the slightest breeze will probably throw them a few feet off target.

It probably wasn't literally 700FPS. The box reviews said 700FPS but it was probably 400 - 550. Plus with the short barrel it won't be all to accurate. All I know is that it felt like having tiny ninjas stab you.

I used to airsoft avidly and really want to get back in to it. We have an outdoor "range" called Mr. Paintball about 20 minutes from me that is downright amazing. Every month they host a major operation which is basically a mission scenario, the last one I participated in was two opposing factions, U.S. military forces and Taliban. Woodland camo was U.S. otherwise Desert Camo and Oddballs (no camo or any other varient) were Taliban. As the taliban our mission was to locate a crashed U.S. Helicopter (They had a real destroyed helicopter was sick as heck). We then had to confirm whether or not the pilot survived and if so capture and interrogate him as well as find the information he was carrying. Afterwords the information detailed American weapon locations and key military structures in the area, we assaulted the positions destroyed or stole the caches and won, the entire event lasted about 10 hours. One of the few problems I have with Airsoft is that yes there is an ability to lie, people who "don't call their hits" are ridiculous but pretty uncommon. However in most serious airsoft games people do because when you're facing a 450 FPS AEG it is rather painful to lie about not getting hit. God I need to get back in to airsofting. Also, a good portion of avid airsofters don't wear any sort of body armor, medics typically wear tactical vests to store their "bandages" and such. I just wear a plain tan tee, a MOLLE chest rig for grenade, spare magazine, and smoke/tactical grenade storage, and Desert BDU pants. Lastly to anyone looking to get in to the "sport", water, lots of fucking water, invest in a Camelback if you don't have one you can get them online for like 20-30 bucks. Being out at least where I'm at, you get dehydrated in a matter of a few hours climbing mountains and running around and such and it is the worst feeling, ever.

My arsenal, just my main weapons sold all my blowback pistols and such since I don't go too much any more.

Damn. Those look pricey. I've got an AK-47 but the shots go 15 meters before blowing away in the wind. So I'm thinking of getting a spring sniper and a C02 M9.

Try using heavier BB's they misfeed much less often, are generally better for the care of your weapon, and tend to be more accurate. I use .25 typically but occasionally I'll go with .20's. If you're getting a high powered sniper which considering it's spring it probably isn't crazy but 500fps+you want to go .28's. At least that's what I've found, increases accuracy and puts the gun at a lower FPS making it less of a safety risk and more largely accepted by airsoft ranges as most of them have a FPS limit.

Edit* Keep in mind not all Airsoft guns can use all BB's typically it'll say in the manual or on the box their restriction if they have one.
