Post by: Pryvisee on August 08, 2010, 07:13:21 PM
Ok well after thinking about it, its time to build my own... I would like to see what you guys think it will run GMod at :D Fps wise.

Alright, shopping list.

Case:
 Cooler Master Elite 310 (http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-RC-310-BWN1-GP-Elite-Window/dp/B0028ACYMC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1281289950&sr=8-2)

Motherboard:
Biostar TA790GX (http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=TA790GX-A2PLUS-R&cpc=SCH)

RAM:
Patriot 4GB (http://www.amazon.com/Patriot-PGS24G6400ELK-Pc2-6400-Enhanced-Latency/dp/B002HJBK5G/ref=pd_bxgy_e_img_b)

Processor:
AMD Phenom II X3 (http://www.amazon.com/Amd-Phenom-II-X3-710/dp/B001R84CGC/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1281298592&sr=1-3)

Video Card:
Sapphire Radeon HD 5670 (http://www.amazon.com/HIS-Radeon-128bit-Express-H567Q512/dp/B0034APYCW/ref=sr_1_5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1282313188&sr=1-5)[/color] (hehe magic, Its WAAAY better  :) )

PSU:
Blue Star 650W 20+4-pin Blue LED Fan (http://www.amazon.com/Diablotek-400-Watt-Power-Supply-PSDA400/dp/B0009MIP8I/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1282313109&sr=1-1)

Other stuff like Thermal past, CPU fan and other fans arent really necessary, to post :)

Alright i think i will run it at a sold 70 fps.. Your guess? :D

And it's all under 400 dollars  ??? ???

1. Get an Asus instead of a Biostar. U wont regret it.
2. I would take 2gbs of ram and upgrade the Video card. U are still able to run 64bit on 2gigs.

Thats about it :/

And what other video card under 100 bucks would you recommend for a 480w psu?

I suggest that you buy other graphic cards, like ATI HD 5000 series.
Because I am using ATi HD 4650 and I don't recommend you gaming.

ATi 46550 is an ownage card, You just have AGP so you rates are lower than half of what PCI can do

My 4350 is better than your 4650 because its on PCI

Why wont his psu last long o_O

my 350w lasted me 3 years....

PHENOM II X3 710 AM3 CHIP2.6GHZ 7.5MB 95W 4000MHZ PIB

Everything in there is fine for your first dream computer :D

But trust me you will want to upgrade the psu and get new gfx card after about 5 months lol

Then that becomes your second etc blah blah blah

Your 480w can power up to I would suggest a 5770.
But that card is 200$.
So U still got alot of upgrading space.

Actually, you'll be suprised on some of the 5000 series. Some of the cards are pieces of shit compared to the HD 4650. Like for example, the 5450. All the rest are better, but hella expensive.

Oh and ive got to update the thread, changed my mind on some of the things :D

U should see the power of my 5850 LOL.
Anyways... Yes if u are a gamer and u want better performance, Your main idea is to spend most money on graphics card.
Then cpu comes after. And then the rest.

Ive been actually looking at the Geforce 9800 GT. Can get it for 70 bucks and it looks like its a good gamer card. Like it can play almost all games at a decent FPS on medium. Maybe on high.

Here is a choice for U.
A competitor to the 9800GT would be the ATI 5670.

They are basically of the same performance.
Do also note the ATi card uses less power and heat.

If your looking at Us prices they are of the same price.

It is your choice >:/

LoL, 15 Dollars more... Might, just might get that card lol  :o Well thanks for the advice.

EDI: HOLY SHITLY! That's a badass card  ???
GTA IV on Radeon HD 5670 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39Tstgn6pNQ#ws)

All very high, highest resolution, 35-50 fps ??? ??? ???

And also, i use GTA 4 for a benchmark since it was ported to PC poorly so it takes more power to run.

I work at a computer store. Get these questions all the time.

As a note. Gta IV >:( Yes, is a POORLY ported game. Meaning some PCs will have performance issues.
My buddy as a 5970 and I7 only get 20fps at lowest. :(
Yes dont expect the best performance from GTA IV.

Yo, get the XFX Radeon HD 5570. Great card for the money. Should get about 7 fps with that system, didnt look to hard so it may get like 40 or so. L4D2 on a 2.2 ghz Quad-core 3 GB ddr2 and XFX Radeon 5570 gets 32 fps average everything maxed. Good card for the money.

Definitely get a 5570. Its a $80 dollar card that uses 45 watts of power. And it packs a punch for its power consumption and price. I recommend XFX Instead of Saphire Btw. First they look better, second, they work better.

Your rig im imagining would get around 15 on a low quality map. max around 60-70. - Thats looking into a wall relitively. Honestly Gmod is the worst benchmark you can use.

Runs gmod at max settings at about 30-50 fps. L4D2 which is a more stable game because of custom content and non crap mapping at 32 fps average, very stable. Thats cause I have a 32 bit os and 3 gigs of ram. also a 2.2 ghz quad-core. If you had something like my new rig it could push out about 60 fps.

My GeForce 9500GT 512MB VRAM pwns teh jooz.

Yeah and my Asus Geforce 8500 was a good card.  :gtfo:

LoL, I don't think I would get 15 fps  :D :D  ( I laught at that )

My rig.
Single P4 2.8 GHz
1 gig ram
Radeon x1550
Windows XP

That machine gets a 25 FPS on all high at 1024 x 768..
(Fm_rnd v2)
70+ FPS on Fm_canal_v2

The core is overclocked to 573MHz and Memory is at 260 i think.

I suggest going for a better case, Your current case is abit on the "meh" side, Faschio screw holdins for HDD & DVD, No removable backcover for Backplate Affixion, Also by the looks of it it only has 1 exhaust, Very bad air circulation in that case....

Go for Coolermaster V3

^The one I'm getting, It's about £30, 3x as good as the case you currently have, But you're gunna have to purchase 3 more fans to go with the case and if your motherboard doesnt have enough PWM slots you're also gunna need PWM extensions lol

What's your CPU cooler btw...

Your not gunna use stock are you? ???

I suggest this CPU Cooler, (It's liquid CPU cooling and easy to install)

OSHIT, Yourmobo is Socket AM2 and your processor is socket AM3

Do not buy until you've sorted that out

Find another mobo with ddr2(for the ram u currently have) and socket am3

Otherwise nothing will fit

AM3 does not support ddr2. Were the mem controller is not on the Cpu. If u want an Am3 cpu and ddr2, go with an AM2+ mobo. It will support AM3 cpus.
