It's been really cold lately so I wear 3-4 layers.
I pretty much wear a t-shirt, light long-sleeve shirt, sweatshirt, and finally, on top, a wind proof semi-thick polyester jacket.
But all these synthetic materials build up static electricity and sometimes I can literally see the arc of electricity hit me. Now i cringe before touch the light switch, door knobs, etc...
I'm gonna go crazy...... I reach for the doorknob like I used to - then remember what's going to happen when my hand touches it.
Any ides on how to discharge it? Does this happen to you guys??

You could also hold something like keys while touching the doorknob.

It's because there is less humidity in the air when it is cold. Normally the charge you build up just dissipates into the air, when there is less humidity the air is less conductive so it takes longer for the charge to dissipate.
It's even worse in Fairbanks since it is much dryer here. Most of the time people don't worry about it. But if it is bugging you just get a humidifier for your room.

Try taking the sweater off. It's what's generating the amount of energy.
