Title: Show us your sPECS!
Post by: HideoKojima on November 18, 2012, 12:26:20 AM
I just noticed we don't have a specs thread. Why not?

I'm curious as to what everyone has.

So post your specs!

Also tell us if you made the build yourself or not.

It doesn't show, but my CPU is overclocked to 3.3GHz and my HD5850 1GB is overclocked to 915/1210 MHz.

I have this PC for about 4 years, gonna upgrade when Nvidia's GTX 700 series will come out. I also really want one of those 27" 2560X1440 120Hz monitors......

Ram is correct

it's DDR, so double 666 and you get 1333MHz

in the middle of an upgrade but here:

due upgrades: FX-8320, another 8GB ram and another 6850

Despite the negative things about the 660ti, I run any game maxed out above 35FPS.
It rarely drops to the 30's except in metro 2033.

Here's an update of my system @4.4GHz -

I've also OCed both of my GPUs to 954MHz Core / 3005MHz Memory.

Btw, planning to go above 4.5GHz, but I'll do that when I have more time (And I might need to de-lid my CPU since the temps are getting quite hot).

Lol, because 2 780 are 2x the power of one Titan =P
Plus I don't need 6GB Vram or its other non-gaming capabilities and it's not worth the maximum 5% performance increase for nearly double the price lol.

Actually, you don't need to be rich to buy this kind of computer, it's just a matter of priorities (and work).

By the way, I've decided to try and OC my CPU more anyway. Reached 4.6GHz @1.22 Vcore! Seems like I've gotten a "golden" chip =D
The temps are quite high though, under full load they reach nearly 85C.......I wanted to de-lid my CPU, but I chickened out >.<    Maybe I'll do this in a couple of months lol

That's odd, my i5-2500k runs cool at 4.5Ghz, it doesn't really get hot until after 5Ghz. Although, with decent cooling, it'll run stable at 5Ghz.

my i5 is barely 4.0-4.2, and it's already in the 60's on idle ;(

It depends on which cooling you've got and maybe you put the voltage too high (it also depends on your motherboard). Ofcourse it also depends on the "silicon lottery", you might've simply gotten a chip that has less OC capabilities.

If you have that CPU for more than a year than it also might be that your thermal paste is less effective now (or the one you have is bad).

I think mine just isn't a good one, but I have it on stock cooler and stock mobo settings. BF3 pushes my i5(ivy) to around 100. I should probably also dust it out... it's been a couple months....  :-\

That's the issue right there. The stock cooler that Intel provides is absolutely terrible. If you've got a few bucks to spare, I highly recommend picking up either a Hyper 212+ (I have this one and it's awesome) or a Hyper 212 EVO (the newer version), it'll keep your system wayyy cooler than stock (30-50C), just be sure to apply your thermal paste properly (you only need a tiny bit more than a grain of rice in size) and you should be good to go. Also, you should probably pick up some cans of compressed air for the dust, or if you have the time, take all of your components and electronics out of your case and hose it down or at least spray it down with some Windex.

I plan on getting liquid cooling in Novemberish... Parents probably will only allow for a closed cpu loop though...

My computer is always like 58~ C on idle.. is that normal? I even have a good fan too. When I switched from stock to hyper evo fan(months ago), idle stayed the same pretty much... though it's a lot cooler during games.

Lol, because 2 780 are 2x the power of one Titan =P
Plus I don't need 6GB Vram or its other non-gaming capabilities and it's not worth the maximum 5% performance increase for nearly double the price lol.

Double the price? Two 780s are more expensive than a titan. lol

Yeah, but one titan costs nearly double the price of one 780 and only about 5% stronger, not worth it =P

And 58C on idle isn't so good, unless you have a serious OC.

But two 780s are 1300$ and a titan is 1000$?

Also doesn't using two graphics cards make it hotter/use more power on the system, and it doesn't really have double the power of just one more like 1.5 the power? I hear going double quite often isn't worth it.

....But 2 Titans are 2000$ and are barely stronger than 2 780s.

2 GPUs are hotter and obviously use more power, the heat is less of a problem if you have a good case + cooling (or a water loop). It's true that it's not really 2x the power, but in most games it's above 1.7x the power. It's also true it's more worth it to get one card.
The thing is, to get above 80FPS in most games at 1440P you need a stronger card than the 780 and there's only 1 card - The Titan, which costs a lot more and you get just about a 5% increase. So since I need more power I simply got 2 780s and tbh that's also not enough, but 3 780s would be overkill for me and the 3rd GPU usually doesn't scale well (about 0-40% increase).

I have been considering one of Radeon's R9 series due to excellent price performance ratios, but heard they can get quite loud.  Looking for 3gb+ VRAM

Quick question. If I want to improve the fps of a game should I buy a better GPU or more RAM if both of these suck (Pentium 4 and 1.5 gb of ram)?

Get a better GPU.  They use built in VRAM and will definately boost your fps more than buying just RAM sticks.

Don't worry, I dun it.  I took that pic after I stress-tested the CPU/HSF.

Got this on Craigslist for $450, I was saving for a December 1440p/GTX 880 build but couldn't resist.

I'm going to sell the 4670k and upgrade to a 4690k as soon as I can, also going to put an H105 on it so I can OC.

I might upgrade the GPU first because R9 290s are cheap on ebay now so we'll see.

I tried adding my old RAM(8GB) to the system, but it wouldn't post after installation, I thought that 1333Mhz RAM was compatible with 1600Mhz and that the faster RAM would just down clock to match the slower RAM, but whatever.
