Title: Presidential Debate
Post by: ○ Μαρία ○ on October 17, 2012, 04:46:45 AM
Since this is the main thing that has been happening lately, I thought I'd ask the opinion of the fellow members who live here in the United States And care enough, what their opinions are on the candidates(not saying others outside the country can't add their input in as well, but since they don't live here I am sure they don't have half as much to say about it)

Please keep this civil, this I meant as a viewing of others personal thoughts, not as an attack. I realize that sometimes topics involving politics can get out of hand quickly.

Anyways, discuss!

Well, to be honest I really don't know.

I've done research, but there's not a lot of credible stuff out there on them without bias.

In the end, they are just the head of the executive branch.

I will be voting for Obama, for a few reasons. But the main one is that I love how he talks. He can communicate effectively (don't get me wrong; he's still a politician and we know what that means) and in a manner I've never had from an elected official. When I learned about the roles of government, I had Bush as an example. He couldn't give a speech without inventing new words. Obama just stutters every now and again but can inspire you with his words. I love that.

Now as far as the candidates are concerned, we are forced to pick the lesser of 2 evils. I found this quote once that sums it up perfectly.

Quote
I feel that Mitt Romney would sell my grandmother, while President Obama would give her to someone who is not fortunate enough to have one.
Either way, Grandmas gone.

I like how people are still considering voting for Romney after he outright said he plans to start a trade war with China during the debate.

Shit nigga, what are you doing.

Romney contradicts himself almost every time he's on camera.

People always say that Obama hasn't done anything and that Romney would be able to "fix" all of "the issues".

I always feel inclined to point out that I'd rather have a president that does nothing over a president that would harm us.

Plus, the Republican stance on several issues (global warming, China, homosexual rights, etc. etc.) makes me want to scream in rage.

I think that Obama brung the heat the second debate and actually called Romney on his bullshit

Now Obama isn't the best candidate, but he's sure as hell better than Romney.

The GOP has not been to good on the truth department since the Reagan years.

Romney is just a more charismatic version of Bush, or a less charismatic version of Reagan; which way you like to put it. With his tax plans that don't really back up, flip flopping about abortion, coal, deportation, etc., repealing Obamacare, even though Romneycare (healthcare in the state of Massachusetts) being near the same damn thing, and returning to Bush era policy. The guy just isn't likeable to me.

The GOP is just out of touch with reality and America.

Yeah both aren't the best candidates but if I was 18 and could vote I would be voting for Obama. I agree what you say about Romney being a 'more charismatic version of Bush' who was pretty much the one who wrecked the economy in the first place.

I think we all wish Neil deGrasse Tyson would run for president, though.

The problem with that is even though he is smart scientifically, he more than likely isn't as experienced with economics and domestic and international issues.

Being as unbiased as I possibly can Obama was slaughtered in the first debate, Ryan and Biden in the second debate seemed pretty even I just really didn't like Biden's attitude he seemed like the most disrespectful cunt in the world, laughing when Ryan would speak on a topic, talking down to him etc. The second presidential debate (between Obama and Romney) was just atrocious I couldn't get past either of their poor manners and shitty decorum to see enough of their actual arguments. They constantly interrupted, poked, prodded, accused, and simply spoke to the other in a demeaning way. It was easily the worst presidential debate I've seen in my lifetime for both parties. As for their actual statements Romney did have a few major slip ups, but Obama didn't make any groundbreaking statements and I felt he just restated the same things he did in 08. The fact of the matter is Obama isn't a president who's done nothing he's a president who's been a negative influence upon our economy which should be; as of now, our biggest priority as a nation. Their simply isn't enough working class citizens to support those who don't it's just not possible in our society, now if we wanted to convert to socialism all together instead of limp dicking around and calling it "radical left wing" I might be a bit more appeased. Romney is really no better as a candidate overall but his strong economic background and economic policy is simply better for stimulating growth. Romneys social policy is shit, he's someone I'd consider borderline religious wack-job, and he doesn't comprehend the rapid expansion of technology but the one thing he does understand is economics and guess fucking what, that's what we need right now most.

I moved to Alaska for college :d

Hey it's not like a territory lmao xD.  All states are under federal laws equally...and that supersedes state laws.

Maybe you meant we have less influence in the electoral college...that's true.  Alaska has like two votes, hawaii 3, and california 55 or something crazy.

I barely follow politics. This is the first year I can vote, and I'm passing on it becuase I don't personally feel like I should be making a decision. If I was going to vote though, I'd go for Obama. I just love the man as a person.

First year for me too. It's out "duty" to vote though. I might vote, because if I don't then I can't bitch about it afterwards about the winner doin a bad job.

He really is. Great voice. It had me on his side when he started running the first time. That whole "Yes we can" "We are pulling out of Iraq" and other crap.

So many unfulfilled promises...

Personally, I think he just had too much on his plate. It's not the he doesn't or isn't going to fulfill them, just that he has his priorities shifted right now. He has started pulling soldiers out and for the most part, the "war" in Iraq is over.

Did he really even do anything? It feels like he did more bad than good... "He has started pulling soldiers out and for the most part, the "war" in Iraq is over." All he did was place them in another country(Afghan). Shit isn't any different really.

Again, I'm just speaking out of my ass here since I don't follow politics, but
We were heading straight for a depression with Bush, and still were until Obama started making some economical reforms. He prevented a recession, got Bin Laden, ended the war, and started sending troops back to America.

Probably because most of the problems have been Bush's and the Republican's fault in general. The debt will more than likely start to go down as soon as the Bush era tax cuts aren't in effect. It'll also stop faster if Republicans in the House and Senate stop being babies and stop blocking every Democrat bill just because it was proposed by Democrats.
