Sennheiser Orpheus headphone sounds like a real instrument (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scExtoMB4FA#)

I know its Headphones through Headphones but holy shit it sounds like you're actually there.
Still not worth 40k though. I promised myself I wouldn't ever spend more then $100 on headphones unless I get super trained ears later.

For this price I expect the cushioning to be made from Panda skin and for it to come with a diamond studded tank.

Who would even use these? Even the biggest most rich production studios don't use these. I don't even think the average person could notice differences after the $200 mark

They originally cost 10k USD, but since these are limited edition there are some rich music enthusiasts that didn't get their hands on them and some will even pay that amount to get them.
After all they costs less than many high-end speakers out there (There are speakers which cost around 300k USD).

Anyone can notice the difference between a 200$ headphone and a 5,000$ headphone. There are also differences between one 1k$ headphone and another 1k$ headphone.

But who the fuck would spend $10,000 on a pair of headphones in the first place? I'm pretty sure you can get crystal clear sound within the $300 range (not that beats shit). Not even the highest quality, professional studio headphones that artists record with costs that much.

Bethesda uses these in their recording studio. http://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-770-PRO-250-ohms/dp/B0006NL5SM (http://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-770-PRO-250-ohms/dp/B0006NL5SM) and I think Valve uses them too.

And they are "only" $170

Usually musicians use Custom in-ear monitors that cost around 1,000 usd. The ones that master audio....Well it depends on their budget, I've heard about some that use 5k USD headphones (STAX SR-009) and then there's the amplifier, the DAC and many other things that also cost thousand of dollars. Some are just music enthusiasts.

It's like a hobby and compared to some other hobbies, this one doesn't cost a lot compared to them.

And you won't know 'til you hear it =P  I haven't heard either and I prefer going to a live show anyway than spend thousands of dollars on headphones.
