Title: Anyone here likes fishing?
Post by: Prox on October 09, 2012, 09:37:51 AM
So I was wondering if there are any people in this community who like fishing in their free time. If so feel free to tell some stories, or the best catches and I'd love to see some tips since I myself aren't very experienced. So far the best catches I got on a fishing rod that uses the floating thingy was 0.5kg bream and a 1.5kg pike on a spinning fishing rod which I bought at the last year autumn or this spring, can't really remember.

Closest I got to catching a fish was when it nibbled the bait
I cried.

Huh? How the fuck did you caught it and how did it break your fishing rod? I mean, wouldn't the wire cut off first?

I do occasionally with my cousin, whenever I'm not so too lazy to actually get up to go.

The last time was sometime in April, we were literally about to pack up and leave, just as we caught this bitch.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We actually had two packs of Liver that we were using as bait.

One was fresh, and the other was actually left out in the sun accidentally and was clearly rotten. The rotten bait actually worked far better than the fresh one, so there's that.

Impressive. How much did it weigh?

If the wire was stronger then the rod then I don't think the rod was very good lol.

I used to fish alot when I was younger. The only advice I can give is that you need to do the research on the type of location you need to fish in: Rivers, streams, lakes, ponds, ocean, etc. all have different tactics you should use.

Bobbers in rivers don't work very well.

I honestly don't remember. I don't think we even weighed it, actually. I'd have to ask my cousin if he remembers.

We got lent them by a guy in the fishing hut shop. They looked pretty worn. Dunno about the wire.

Caught a shark with my dad when I was 8. Never actually fished again after that because I got seasick time to time.

Yah fishing was fun this lady gave us some power bait and I there were like 8 other pro's who taught me on the fort lewis lake on my friends going away party

One of the pro's caught like a 4ft rainbow trout I think forgot exact size

I still caught nothing that day though the fish were just not out I guess.

We had a super small lake near our house and our school would occasionally let us fish there during P.E. We would always have to toss them back in the river, however.

I haven't fished in a long time, but I would really love to do it again. In fact, I might just buy a rod and some line and go out in the ocean and fish some time soon.

For me, the best part about fishing is being to chill out and think about whatever. Just relax and enjoy the breeze.

The best part about fishing for me is when the fish becomes hooked and you're pulling it out as it resists you.

when i do fishing i tend to just used a wire in a plank and trow it into a calm place of the sea.

no fishing road.

the bait is a Little animal called "muy muy"

Normally when i do this is when i have to wait near the sea and i can do it, and normally caught fishes of the size of my hand

I did commercial fishing for around 8 years before my current job. Haven't done all that much sports fishing tho. Best I've done sports fishing was a 60 pound halibut, tasty... tasty... halibut.

Gone salmon fishing several times, I tend not to have the paitence for it, when I would spend all day trying to get one fish, when normally I could spend one day and get 2000+ fish commercial fishing.

Best fish I ever caught was a 70 lb king salmon, commerical fishing we use gill nets, which are about 300 feet long, and 12 feet tall, and full of 5 1/2 in holes, which the fish swim into and get caught on their gills. King salmon however cant fit through the holes, they also cannot swim backwards.  So you would be going through the net and all the sudden see a giant shadow underwater. The king salmon would just have his tooth hooked on the webbing of the net, but still cant get away.

So we would gently pull up to the salmon, then the other person in the boat would get next to your. Then you would spring upon the salmon and try to pull it in the boat. I grabbed the tail other crewmember grabbed the head/gills. Commence pissed off fish. So of course the salmon would start flapping with all his might, and when its a 70 lb pile of muscle, that is a significant amount of force. So as quick as you can you try to throw it into the boat. Success! lands in the boat, however fish is still pissed off and flapping around. So now you have to dodge a 70lb fish who is propelling himself 3 feet into the air. A few dodges later, and the fish finnally tires out and dies.

Good stuff.

Pretty much your best bet is to go fishing with someone who knows what hes doing. They generally know the best times to go fishing, and what the best equipment are to use.

Bumping.
So 2 days ago me and my friend decided to go fishing at the early morning. Since I like taking pictures with my phone I decided to take a few.
Took this one right when I went outside:

This one when we arrived to the lake:

And now the fish that we took:

I caught the one that weighted 1,45 kg my friend got the smaller one which was about 0,5kg.
These two were the first fish that we caught within 20 minutes after that all we managed to catch was small fish. This is the biggest fish that I have caught on a regular fishing rod. Hopefully there will be more fish like this in the future.

I used to like fishing, it was surprisingly relaxing, I remember catching a sunfish. Now I never leave my house.

I accidentally misread this and thought it said "Anyone here like fisting?"
