Right, so let me explain what I'm doing here.
I felt like working on a more practical project, something that would actually be, you know, used.
I thought that reworking the default beats/ambient music that was in the game would be a nice one to do.
The goal here is to create high-quality original audio to replace the older samples that have been there for a while.
The new audio files are roughly the same filesize as the originals, but use a much more efficient compression method to maximize on the quality.
As I work on these, I'd like to get some feedback from the community. While I don't want to change the feel of ZS, I still feel that the default audio files could use a facelift.
Here's an example, the game's zbeats are sounds that are triggered when zombies are near each other. As the situation escalates, so does the music.
The default ZBeat 1-6. It loops twice, then pauses for two bars, then plays the next loop, repeat.

Same applies here, this is just something I threw together.

I'll gradually update the thread as I work. Do let me know what you think I should add/remove/modify.

I can make something like the insanely high piano keys that are in the original, but I'm also trying to see if I can do something a bit more symphonic, and stick to a cinematic-ish score.
Of course, if people don't like that, I can always change it.

Oh fuck yes. You reworked that bass.

I'm more or less concerned about the people who will say we should keep the old sounds becuase "it wouldn't be ZS without them" and start talking about nostalgic value or something.

the high pitched piano notes are the most nostalgic out of the original to me and probably to most people

The Black Mesa soundtrack.

Wow, the original song was actually worse than I thought it was. Certainly did a good job of hiding that, so I guess it sort of wasn't.
The first thing I suggest you do is remove that high pitch whooshing noise you have in the first one and keep the 1 track close to the original track. Your 2 track has the right idea, it has increased frequency but it fades in and out a noticeable bit. For your 3 track use [whatever you used to make the "high pitch whooshing noise"] to make a sort of crescendo at the end of that track instead of a fadeout.
I too am recommending you to don't stray all that far from the original (because in part due to the mood that it set). Make it like a parody: It will have the same sort of pattern and rhyming but the words change the whole meaning.

I like it, but it doesn't make you feel like in a zombie apocalypse kind of situation.

Yeah, I'm going back and redoing them sometime either today or tomorrow. Not sure.

In my opinion, it seems more of an Unlife/Human winning song then an "Oh god WERE FUCKED" song.

Perhaps make something similar to Left 4 Dead soundtracks?

That can be done, but it would go against the whole "I want to keep the feel of the original ones".

Scratch that, would anyone be against something more action oriented? Something more akin to the Payday soundtrack?

I would prefer panic/paranoid/horror

That's what I thought initially too, but really, the ZS gamemode is much more action oriented than scary.

True, but it creates a sense of tension and suspense. I hope this track revitalizes the original song and makes it less bland while not scaring fans of the original away. Make it too different and a much larger amount of people may get upset with it.

That's what I was thinking. Maybe I'll just make different packs, one to be used on the actual server, and one people can use to replace locally in their Gmod folder or something.
The one used on the actual server will be more faithful to the original. I might just remaster them instead of making new tracks, if I decide to do that.
