Title: Question Regarding Elevator [more a peeve of mine]
Post by: Travelsonic on July 29, 2012, 08:15:34 AM
Why is the addon for gmod so dependent on hl2ep2 that you have to have it before you can even do custom maps for it?

I mean, wouldn't it have made sense to make the base content as universally usable as possible, needing hl2, gmod, and/or css, and make it so specific maps - even the default map - had stuff that needed games like hl2ep2, etc, to work right?

It would make more sense if gmod wasn't so dependent on other games to begin with... Everything for gmod is dependent on other games. EX:ZS is HL2 (i think), TTT is CSS. I just learned to accept that you basically need like every Valve game if you want all the textures and whatnot for everything in gmod...

I mean, the stuff for Elevator that you use in Hammer requires hl2ep2, not just textures, but all the Elevator specific hammer files, which I would reckon isn't a gmod thing, but a thing with the mod itself, which is frustrating since - well, at its CORE, what does it use - as opposed to what can be added to maps - that needs it to begin with functionality wise?

You can always download the GCF files off of someone else account and convert it to an addon.

If they're nice.
