Title: Tonight's Mystery: The Lost Posts
Post by: Tiger Guy on March 10, 2012, 08:40:50 AM
PLAY THIS IN BEFORE BROWSING THIS THREAD
TODAY ON UNSLOVED MYSTERIES (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuo1oRW-Ouk#ws)

Really? Alkaline's post and my post was deleted? The one that was FUCKING telling him what may help him, and Jmans "Go fuck yourself" post was left? Really?

Ok so my posts aren't the only ones getting deleted. I've had like 4 deleted posts in the past 3 days.

Shit man calm down. I just checked the moderation log and it doesn't seem like anyone deleted anything from this thread.

Also, my post had nothing to do with me saying to "go fuck yourself" because that's not what I said derp. I was simply stating that he's making it into a big deal just for attention and as an excuse. Just calm down big boy.

I'm not sure which abusive moderator decided to delete my post but I will try to transpose the original:

Read above. Nobody deleted anything. Seriously, just calm down...

Really now? Then how could Alkaline's and my post just disappear? Last time I checked, posts can't just walk away.

Shit man. At first you seemed like there was a stick up your ass. Now I think you somehow got the whole tree up there LOL.

I don't know what happened to your posts, but it was most likely a forum bug. Only coolz can delete posts without it showing up in the moderation log.

So yes, it just magically disappeared I guess...

EDIT: Thank you, don. I was going to do that, but I was too lazy lol.

Really?

The only sensible proof I have (which disproves the possible theory that the server for this forum was down when people posted) is that:

Before I made the post in Astro's thread, my respect (which I only occasionally look at) was at 116.
The post I made in Astro's thread got one +1, by Axule. This raised me to 117.
The post I reposted here above your post got another +1 by Tiger Guy raising me to 118.

Conclusion:
That post DID exist.
There was no downtime on the forum's server.
They were directly deleted and not binned first.

The previous post me and Tiger Guy made were to help Astro.
A moderator deleted our posts, which receded the only positive influence for Astro.

To add on to this, I remember when before I went to bed, my karma was +331. When I went on the forums this morning. That +1 was in this thread by Axule. I'm at +332 now because Supertoaster +1ed my post in his graphics thread. So I'm going with what Alkaline is saying.

Also, in my 2 1/2 years on the forums, I've never seen a 'glitch' where people's post just magically disappear, hours after it was posted.

I'm not saying an admin did anything, but I can support Alkaline's and Tiger Guy's claims. They did post on here encouraging Astropilot, which is why I +1'd them. Those posts aren't on here anymore.

What do you want us to tell you?
We've shown you the moderation log.
Three admins have said they didn't do anything.

Nothing else we can do.

We've shown you the moderation log.

Nothing else we can do.

The only two perceptions I have of how the posts were deleted were:

(a) The points only rely on a hosted table/website/server that is not linked directly to the forum other than to keep track of points.
Maybe the server for the forum had to be restored to a version an hour before we posted.

(b) Coolz deleted the posts without any PM's or mentioning the maliciousness of the posts, which is unlikely but is still a possibility.

It may have to do with the new host migration. But again, stop making accusations towards the admins. As Don said we already showed you the logs, we didn't do shit -_-

Thanks for derailing my other thread. I would like to ask again why are posts being deleted? Was there a reason for things to be deleted? Not blaming you mods, but what really happened?
Title: Re: Tonight's Mystery: The Lost Posts

Since this argument is at a stalemate, a super admin or coolz should review this and say who's right.

We don't know and we didn't purposely derail your thread. Hence the reason for this thread.

I don't really see how this is such a big deal to you?

It's two posts. Get over it and don't waste other people's time. ._.
Title: Re: Tonight's Mystery: The Lost Posts

Let me just input my theoretical opinion on how this could happen:

1. Host company decides to begin migrating server data to another box.

2. At, say, 12:00, a copy is made of all the data on the servers.

3. At 12:05, Tiger guy and Alkaline post. The posts are submitted to the old server box that is still running, which remain there for about an hour.

4. At 12:30, the copy operation from the backup to the new server is complete. The new server is brought online, with a half-hour old forum database.

5. Everyone after Tiger Guy and Alkaline posts. Because the new server started with slightly old data, it appears as though Tiger Guy and Alkaline's posts were never there. Mysterious, isn't it?

6. The next day, Tiger Guy and Alkaline wake up to see that their helpful posts have been "deleted".

7. In their anger management ritual, they each take the de-barked trunk of a 15-year-old oak tree and lodge it in their rectum. The sudden expansion of their anus causes them intense pain and internal bleeding, which moves them to become increasingly aggressive as to inquiring where their posts have gone.

The problem is that the two posts were about actually helping Astropilot. Alkaline was nice enough to post his again, but I'm not going to post what I said again, since it took about 30 minutes to think though what was a good thing to say and revising my post.

By posting, I'm not wasting peoples time, they're wasting their own time by getting into this, even though it doesn't involve them. Alkaline never said "IT WAS JMAN THAT DELETED OUR POSTS!!!1111!", he said that there was someone that could. By Jman pointing out that he said it and defending himself for something that we didn't even say that he did.

The other reason that I have a problem with this is that today it could be a post disappearing, tomorrow it could be a VIP's that some admin doesn't like powers disappearing. I don't believe an admin would stoop to those levels, but it wouldn't surprise me if they did.

2. You have nothing to do with this, so shut the fuck up.

I've had posts be deleted too, but never have then mys disappear without a trace like this. I would understand if me and Alkaline were saying "OMG ASTROPILOT UR SUCH A LOSER GET A LIFE", but we were actually trying to help him.

It's two posts. Get over it and don't waste other people's time. ._.

At the time, it felt very coincidental how all posts below Omega Blade were deleted.
What was running through my mind after finding out the post I made to console Astro was deleted was that a moderator or administrator deleted my post (along with Tiger's) to purposefully raise negativity towards Astro.

Right now, I believe that this is due to a host migration and coolz will confirm this if he brushes upon this thread.

Why is this in the general board? Shouldn't this be in like VIP or something do we really want to show the public our dirty laundry?

If I were a newcomer to RND and I saw this thread, I would be more than glad to have such a caring administration at the head of the server.

imo, I would say this thread is worthy of saving as a .html for reference in a future case of precedence.

You basically just didn't look at anything except for that

Nobody deleted your posts. Even when Coolz deletes or locks a topic, it's logged.
I can understand your suspicion, but there really is "nothing" to solve.

Jman only defended himself because of all the unfortunate hate flying toward him as of late. Its not really him thinking he's guilty of anything, but more of a "they must be talking about me" sort of thing.

Gamefreak only tried to help by coming up with a possible, and most likely conclusion to what happened. Telling him to "shut the fuck up" was uncalled for.

Don deleted a post in the thread, but it wasn't the two in question.

It was a bug. Stop blowing it out of proportion.

Hmm due to the time frame I'm almost certain it was forum migration.

I was notified of this but it was a short time frame for notice so I didn't have time to clarify before part of the process had begun.

While I can manually drop records from the database with a no-trace effect I don't tend to do that unless that particular record is malicious to the forum or irremovable for whatever other reason.

Sorry for the confusion guys
