Title: VIP Inactivity
Post by: Juan_Ambriz on January 26, 2012, 03:53:28 PM
I didn't know where else to put this but,

Why do people that were demoted due to inactivity just get approved just like that?
From what moo posted "Users that were demoted due to inactivity can redeem their VIP easier"
Doesn't that mean they need a lower score than most people trying out?
Idk if it's just me but I don't think they should be promoted right away..

I don't think they should be demoted for inactivity in the first place.

^Says VIP's.  (excluding memo)

Going to be completely honest here, haven't seen much of a difference in administrating server-wise. (Mainly TTT.)

VIP something that is earned.
Not like it hurts to have "too many" vips.

I don't really understand what point you're trying to get across here?

If it makes you feel better i had to go through the WHOLE process again.

Also I've been saying this since moo brought up the whole idea of demote for inactivity

Ever since Moo stepped down, Don's been handling pretty much everything Reg/VIP promotion related that Moo was.

And he thinks demotions for inactivity are stupid too, so

Since Don is now our savior...does that mean we have to suck his dick to avoid an inactivity demote?

Nah, I mean if they are trusted.. they are trusted.

So after coming back from being away for awhile I see no reason to force them through the same process.

And he thinks demotions for inactivity are stupid too, so
Doesn't mean Don makes the rules though.
Anyways... I really do think that we should stop demoting for inactivity? We could still have a list of active members though, to have a realistic idea of how many VIPs are playing, but I don't see that we should really demote them.

I think it would be practical to remove admins from the VIP approver list if they aren't actually active in-game.

Just saying.

I vote that not only everyone does this to avoid demotion, but also that we remove apps entirely and promote VIPS based on this.

I think we shouldn't demote them, but just set in the list on the forums if they are active on the servers or not...

I cannot see why would VIPs get demoted for inactivity.
We all get bored some day. I sometimes take short breaks from rNd and get addicted to ZS and TTT again, playing it even more than before.
I'm going to apply for VIP some day. It wouldn't be fair, IMO.

I think we shouldn't demote them, but just set in the list on the forums if they are active on the servers or not...

Why would we would create a list, which doesn't do anything? If an admin or any other player sees a VIP who is listed as inactive... what then?

My only concern was really that it said leniency. So I didn't understand if it mean repromote right away, but really I too think people shouldnt be demoted for inactivity because like said
People can get bored and leave for a while and come back later.

I also do agree on the list where it says Active VIP's and not active.
We should ask Coolz to not demote people because of that

Okay I actually need to respond to this seriously it seems.

You are all assuming that VIPs get demoted for being inactive for a short period of time - while that might have been true in the past, just look at how it's done now.
The last VIP that got demoted for inactivity (Necruly) was offline for three months on steam and god-knows how long on the forums. Ever since then not a single VIP has been demoted due to being inactive.

VIPs get demoted for inactivity in order to see who's active and who isn't - at least that's how it used to be done.
I'd be okay with just keeping a list with who's active and who isn't, but I don't really see the need for it. All current VIPs are fairly active.

Going to respond to individual posts, points might repeat:

Ever since Moo stepped down, Don's been handling pretty much everything Reg/VIP promotion related that Moo was.

And he thinks demotions for inactivity are stupid too, so
I don't think the concept behind it is stupid. I just think that it's stupid if it's done inconsistently.

I think it would be practical to remove admins from the VIP approver list if they aren't actually active in-game.

Just saying.
Even though I see your point, the VIP application process is perfectly fine at the moment in my opinion. It's hard, yet entirely possible to get VIP currently which is perfect.

My only concern was really that it said leniency. So I didn't understand if it mean repromote right away, but really I too think people shouldnt be demoted for inactivity because like said

This has been discussed between admins and we came to the conclusion that re-promoting VIPs right away with an application is the right thing. The app is mainly there to show that someone has been re-promoted - same goes with VIPs that were demoted by request (i.e Deacon).

And coolz doesn't demote inactive VIPs. I did the last time and before that Moo did.

Now I know I'd have to agree with DoeniDon on this one.
Ofcourse...even so, mabye ... just incase, you could add a certain thread for anyone willing to take vacation time (like 2 months, for instance) and willing to post about it if they don't want to get kicked/demoted anyway. Ofcourse, why would someone apply for vip without letting ANYONE realize that they're going to be offline for (this amount of days) and why; well, probably because there wasn't a thread then and they must've known, right? So what could they have done?...but anyway, what's done is done, and if doenidon says that vips -- even other admins aswell are 'fairly active', then let's just not worry about that. Because if this thread (or what I'd call what seems to me an arguement,) goes on forever, i'm just gonna have to start a thread myself for those who are gonna take vacation time off and need a way of letting others know that aswell; sure, they can even post it on their own profile too, but i'm just saying, what good is a VIP who stays offline for over a month and you have no way to contact them -- let's say you can email them, but that doesn't have anything to do with the fact that they just haven't really been on any servers lately. But that's probably something i'm going to have to assume. Either way, wether 'fairly active' or not, I think there should probably be a thread for this in the discussion section of the forum. But that's just what I think now. If you guys have any other opinions that make mine look like shit, just go for it.  :bluepacmanghost:

Don, I don't really think anyone's making the assumptions that VIPs get demoted for inactivity based off a short period of time. I know they don't, but it's still unnecessary work to demote them for inactivity, and if they're trusted, they may show up every now and the on the servers which could still help. Keeping a lot of inactive members all which may join the servers now and then like Necruly would add up, and really help. No point to really demoting them though, but keeping a list for active members would help. It would probably end up taking a LITTLE more work, but I say it would absolutely be worth it.

This is basically the logic I use with admins and inactivity

So why not do the same with VIP?

The current method was a suggestion to keep track of VIP by admins, I think mainly an effort to keep VIP's actively participating in servers.
