Why not make another file-sharing site secretly?

People could, in theory, if they wanted to, technically, IN THEORY, use it to pirate something, and we THINK they might be.
Shut it down and arrest all involved.

Well I mean,

It's a well known fact that 99% of megauploads content was copyrighted shit. So.
I mean.

ClassicNickShows.net lost tons upon tons of 90s/80s Nickelodeon shows uploaded to megaupload - content which a lot of encoders didn't keep after uploading.

Lots of rare promos, short episodes, music files, episodes of long gone TV shows, etc, a lot lost .

I'm sorry to ruin everyone's fun, but am I the only one who realizes how stupid, juvenile, and petty anonymous is? Just saying.
But anyways... Cesar, that was seriously, seriously not cool...

It is a matter of opinion [which I am still agreeing with, but an *opinion* nonetheless.]

True, but still, shutting them down will hardly make a difference. in anything other than piss off everyone

I just had a thought. Shouldn't the government be going after the uploaders? Megaupload is just a place to share stuff. It's not its fault that it has some stuff. The people who uploaded those copyrighted stuff knew their policy, yet they do it anyways. I guess the government is so lazy that they just want to point it at one person.

It was over the fact that the people who ran the site were PAYING the people to upload copyrighted content.

Oh, well that's just odd. I guess they did kind of deserve it... but still, they shouldn't bring the whole sight down together.

Wait do megaupload was PAYING for the videos to be uploaded?...

This is quite a big deal, but why must they kill the best websites of the internet!!!

Personally, I hated megaupload. The fact that they throttle bandwidth trying to get you to pay them money makes me lose all my poke-respect for them.

not like that, you get credits everytime someone watches your video which you could exchange for cash...

I just have to say this (and I kind of like it):

Government by Hollywood for Hollywood.

Hollywood in this case just refers to major content providers.

Well gamefreak, you need to remember that megaupload is a company and a service that you could use for free. The intent of any company is to make money.

Megaupload was involved in a nearly 2 year long case, and the decision on what to do was made weeks ago.  Timing of the implementation wasn't coincidental...
Anyways, this was done with pre-existing anti-piracy laws and through due process.
SOPA will throw that process out the window.

I remember I used to pingaz all my shit from Megaupload, but now I barely use it anymore. I'm pretty sure a bunch of people are going to switch to mediafire or some other file sharing website :/

This is why piracy should be stopped.

says the person who pirates stuff daily

But SOPA and PIPA aren't the way to solve it.

This whole SOPA deal reminds me of team america. The US think they have the right to police the wprld when noone really wants them to. I would bet my life if it was china or any other country for that matter attempting to do this, the US would be criticising and doing anything they could to stop it

Regardless, anytime you post a referral link, you should always post a non-ref link under it. It's just customary.
