Title: ttt map list (January 30th, 2012 Update....See OP)
Post by: Tezuni on January 06, 2012, 12:09:55 AM
The Refined Map List:
(January 30th, 2012)

- Alphabetized
- No scrolling, all maps in plain view
- Significantly longer selection time (~3x as long?)
- Recently played strikeout (red line?) such as Harbl Hotel
- Thumbnail appears centered above map list columns when mouse-over

Thanks for contributing guys.

This x 2,200056.  The time limit is too short, IMO - which is not only unhelpful for choosing maps, but also for getting all the proof you can only get post-rond [especially if, for whatever reason, I encounter the issue where I can't flip through the tabs in the end-of-round report, which is in of itself annoying].

On top of that, I wouldn't oppose a format for laying out the maps where instead of a 2-collums-whatever-rows layout for all the maps, why not a 3 or 4 column display spreading the choices further across the screen?  Most if not all map names aren't THAT long at all, plus if there are more maps that nid being displayed, you can fit more on the screen at once [combined with sizing the font down by 1 or 2 sizes as well?]

It should be, at the very least, 3x more.

The porblem lies with the range of computer monitors people use. We can't exclude anyone from viewing all the maps. Now if it were an option (and the 2 rows were the default) I'd be all for it.

I'm sure that one can adapt the idea to handle various resolutions without issue.  On 2nd thought, I should amend my statement so it is at most 3 columns, 4 would be a bit nuts.

I would also like to add to display a "(Recently Played)" tag after a map that is on hold for 10 more maps.

Yes! This is a perfect idea. I've also seen this on other communities as well, one such being ECG (which went down due to a complication with the host). I remember it being shot down in-game due to "It's unnessesary and only means more work." So...

Great suggestion. It'll let us play more of the maps we want to play, not just the usuals. A great combination with the last 10 round rule.

Awesome. But we go loads more maps than those in TTT. It'll be a waste of time for players to find a specific map.

This system shows the maps avaliable for next round. Not all the server's maps are there as the menu changes each map. I do beleive this server could greatly improve on this and have a way of showing ALL maps.

This is great, the problem lies in the amount of TTT maps that Random has. If we can't show the pictures to all of the maps then mabie we can show the picture of the map someone votes for. We do have extra space for a third row, mabie it could appear in the top right corner of the screen? Now what if that blocks other map names? How about when you scroll over the map names near (and on the right side of) the right corner the picture switches to the other side? When you scroll over it on the left side the same thing applies but flip-floped.

The only problem with that is the requirement of the pictures.

Out of curiousity, what did you get banned for?

Teeny banned him for a month due to ghosting.

And I actually would like having Samo's idea, although it should be smaller.

*Suspected Ghosting*-1month
*Ghosting* -2week  It just doesn't make sense but anyways...
The map list doesn't have to be the same. Maybe a search function, smaller pictures for more maps, a list of recently played maps would also be pretty nice. I could also get screenshots for all the TTT maps if need be
List your ideas everyone! Thanks.

Agree with this and recently played tag. Both would be awesome for me. I always want to play Lost Temple, but the only time I ever can find it on the list is when it has been played within 10 rounds.

(The whole rounds thing itself is also a bit misleading. You play 6 rounds per map. So a map can't be played until you have played 10 other maps, not 10 rounds. :P)

- Recently played strikeout (red line?) such as Harbl Hotel

Thanks for the input everyone, this is where I think we're at.  (I didn't include the thumbnail idea, because there just isn't enough room.)

Isn't the background behind the map name's gray? I'd rather have it in a dark red color or maybe like the color of a terrorists crosshair. Like ttt_example_v2 or ttt_example_v3.

I've taken screenshots of most of the maps. With a red font the maps would be somewhat easier to identify.

Sorry Tezuni, I sorta skimmed your post.
Anyways. The images can easily be resized to a smaller scale, they still look pretty good. If there still isn't enough room a scroll/page function may have to be added  :'(
Title: Re: ttt map list
Post by: Loke on January 27, 2012, 04:48:10 PM
Wait.

Why not we do something else.

We make it so that the images are there, and it randomly chooses maps so different maps are chosen.

like this:

Maps:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

And the map list can only hold 3 maps at a time so, it goes random.
Such as:

Map 1 was played:

4 6 and 3 are shown

Map 4 was played:

5 2 and 7 are shown.

Something like that would be nice.

The reason I don't want thumbnails is because I don't want to have to scroll on the map list.  :(
But yeah, this is just my opinion.
Don't know if already suggested, but maybe show the thumbnail when you rollover the map name?

You can't really deny that people mostly join on that map.
What we really need to remove is that worthless waste of 100MB ttt_terror_office that makes everyone leave the moment it's voted.
Really, every time it's voted everyone just leaves and what's left is a dead server for the rest of the day.
