Title: The Great War: Source
Post by: ledjohnny on December 22, 2011, 11:53:50 PM
Thinking lately about making a WWI game, being quite realistic. Going to need mappers, modelers, etc.

A sourcemod similar to World War I Source.

Update:
Active team members:

If you would like to be apart of the project please post skill level identifiers (past work, current, etc).

What are you thinking? making it  with rounds and you are going to need people to make maps for it?

If you do it like that, i could try making maps for it.

It's going to be area capture control, one round then next map. Maps should be quite straight-forward as they'll trenches, and modeled after battles from the war. So basically going through the western/eastern front in real-time almost.

Too bad the player-base is smaller, but yes.

And Unit that would be awesome.

I know this sounds simple, but I could maybe hold onto files in case your PC goes "BOOM" or something like that.

I got like 900 gigs that I don't use.

Photowodoshop.

Anything involving graphics, count me in. But do make sure there are some things I cannot do.

I could possibly do voice acting for the Germans if and ONLY if you can change the files to the proper format.
They are WMAs, just so you know.

I might be able to make you a map.

You should be familiar with my past work.

Alright, count me in.
You've heard what I can do, but I need a full list of voice commands, announcers, and the like if I'm going to get this done.

First of all, do you know anything about coding? Sorry if I'm wrong, but I think you don't have any experience at all...
Also, lua ain't going to help much at all. You need to know C# (Or what ever HL2 was build on) references. You need to own Microsoft Visual Studio, which costs thousands of dollars. Lots of experience. Lots of custom models, unless you are going to use Day Of Defeat: Source models, which isn't really possible. Because it would be stealing.
Hiring coders is a bad idea. If you are the leader of the team, you are going to need to be the coder and usually the leader mapper. You need to build .fgd, so other mappers can make the objectives.

Anyway, good luck. I hope you will succeed. I have always wanted to try World War games on Source engine.  :)

You're wrong.

APOLOGY NOT ACCEPTED.

He's capable of doing it, no doubt.
The only challenge I see is that with group efforts like this is that UNLESS everyone working on the project is able to be 100% involved, it'le just die out.

It's not really still alive.

It's more of a beaten down dog, hobbling around aimlessly with only the use of one leg.

What a shame, it seemed like it was doing pretty well.
I bet the end piece of it would have been amazing

Free tools to create applications on Windows using Visual C++.

Argument invalid.

Hence the name "project" this isn't something that gets done in two days time. That's why projects suffer this fate.

Just got the game to properly compile under VC++! Now we can begin.

Another question that came up was whether or not to make the game realistic or cartoony.

I'll put the poll up.

If you make it catoony its gonna be like battelfield heroes...
Eventhrough I like the game, it would be better to have it realism.

We could mix WWI and WWII like Mark IV from WWI and Tiger from WWII. Would be cool !  :)
