Extremely, i wouldn't even walk there if it was 10 minutes away...

"The $600 million Kepler observatory launched in March 2009 to hunt for Earth-size alien planets in the habitable zone"
I don't get why we can't live on planets bigger than earth or size like Jupiter ;-;

Because the amount of gravity would be different and our bodies wouldn't be able to handle it.

Well
Jupiter's gravity would crush you.
But for planets that are slightly larger/smaller than Earth, even if the gravity difference is minuscule, it would make a huge impact on our bodies in the long run.
Most children would have to be conceived in test-tubes if you expect them to live. Our bodies were made to live on Earth, and only Earth.

You sure..? We can defy the gravity in some sort or try to modify our bodies to handle the pressure but that kind of technology is way too advance..

They get there 600 light years later to find a destroyed civilization and the continents have taken the form of a trollface
-
That Voyager satellite is still going after all these years and has only reached as far as Pluto so far. It's gonna take quite some time to get there.

Well, at least I can remember this day because it's also my birthday.
Telling grand kids 100yrs from now:
"On this day, they had discovered the planet that you're kids will be living on"

I did that on purpose.
Hey, you never know, they can always come up with something new to increase life expectancy.
Besides, I'm only 16, it's not like it's impossible even if they didn't come out with anything new.

In space terms, that's not "right next door" or "on our doorstep", that's inside our living room trashing the place.
-
inb4 star wars all over again.

Just to clarify, both of the Voyager satellites have already left our solar system and Pluto.

Tell me you're kidding? 600 lightyears mean it would take us 600 years to get there if we could travel at the speed of light which we can't... thats about 3,521,828,160,000,000 miles even with our current tech the fastest we ever traveled in a manned-spacecraft was 24,791 mph lets round that to 25k mph... so lets do some simple math
3,521,828,160,000,000 / 25,000
= 140873126400 (hours to get there)
140873126400 / 24 (hours in a day)
= 5869713600 (days to get there)
5869713600 / 365 (Days in a year)
= 16081407 (. long ass number I'm roundiong)
Therefore it would take us about 16,081,407 Years to get there.
yup totally in our living room...

Well, in terms of galactic scale it is sorta in our living room, as the galaxy is ~100,000 light-years across (100000/600 = 0.6%)
In terms of what humanity is currently capable of you are correct, 1 light-year or 1 billion light-years they are both equally in-achievable with the current technology.

That was my point from my OP "Have fun getting there" in regards to our current tech it's not in our backyard or across the street from us.
-
I'll just fire up the white hole and get us over there in no time :)

Yeah but, I was only pulling that fact out of my head, and I have bad memory :(
-
Well.
Who knows.
Maybe we do something stupid and accidentally punch a hole in space, given that The Laws of Physics/Reality itself permits this.
lighttravellingfasterthanlightblahblahblahblah Humans with Artificial environments.
Who knows, maybe prolonged weening to the environment over Generations could allow humans to adapt to the gravity.
But ofcoursethatwouldtaketime.

Maybe they will find a way to get through a wormhole before it crushes them.

The most probable method for faster than light travel at the moment is the "Warp Drive"
This method doesn't require you to go into a black hole (and die) use an inter-dimensional gate, or use an artificially created worm-hole (which has been proven to be theoretically unstable, thus not good if you want to depend on it)
The "warp drive" works by warping space. As there are no properties in physics they prevent you from altering the fabric of space all you really have to do is expand the space behind the spaceship and contract the space in front of the spaceship, this will allow you to travel faster than light, without actually traveling faster than light.
The only hiccup is in order to do some of this you need to be able to use negative energy, which while the existence of it hasn't been definitively proven, if has had some experimental research where they are pretty sure they made some. But there is no real definitive answer in that direction.
So I'll be damned if I don't get a chance to travel to another star in my lifetime.

Ditto. I might sound stupid, but I'm fairly confident we'll be able to break our laws of physics within our lifetime.

Actually the voyager passed pluto in the late 80s... It's much much farther away now...I think it just recently exited the heliopause or something like that
oh and they think the thing by mercury is the planet itself, because the images were delayed and the planet moves or something to that effect
